The building of the Tower House was a fortified construction and a fortress with military and housing functions in vogue from the X century during the Middle Ages.It is the symbol of the city of Colle Val d’Elsa and one of the few medieval towers still intact.
The House Tower of Arnolfo is located in Colle Val d’Elsa, Via del Castello, n.63 where was born the homonymous architect who designed various monuments, including the Palazzo della Signoria in Florence, the Ciborium in Rome and many others. Arnolfo was born in the Tower around the 1230-1240, and he was one of the most important architect of the Middle Ages, as well as sculptor and town planner. However, there is little information that comes to us.
Subsequently, the Tower has become the study of a famous neo-expressionist artist called Gino Terreni, who decorated the walls with some paintings. In addition to the ‘Annunciazione’ at the 4th floor, we can also find some scenes from the battle of Colle in 1269
From access to Via del Castello, n. 63. common to several apartments, we go up to the second floor where there is the entrance to the Tower and the bathroom. Going up to the third floor through an internal staircase is the living area, with kitchenette, sink, fireplace and a table. Going upstairs there is the living area with sofa, television, etc. as well as a very large single-sized window whose view satisfies the senses, ranging from Colle Bassa to Monteriggioni, the Sienese Montagnola up to Barberino Val d'Elsa. We can also see the Torre deiPasci, the other tower-house in Colle Val d'Elsa.
